Three score types appear next to every school. Here's exactly what each one is built from and how to read it.
Direct 1 to 10 score, sourced from Public School Review 2026.
This is the score I use for every Top Ten ranking. When schools tie at 10 out of 10, I break the tie using combined CAASPP 2024-25 proficiency, ELA plus Math.
An inferred score, averaged from verified peer schools in the same district.
When a school's own score isn't published, I average its district peers at the same grade level. If the district has no peers, the county average fills in. Always labeled as Estimated.
Schools that don't fit the standard 1 to 10 scale.
Charter, continuation, alternative, and special-education programs use different scoring systems. They're listed in the searchable database for completeness, but kept out of the Top Ten leaderboards.

Three columns, one glance. The highest-scoring elementaries, middles, and high schools across all six counties. Public School Review tier leads the order (10s before 9s before 8s), and within each tier schools are ranked by combined CAASPP 2024-25 proficiency (ELA + Math, % meeting or exceeding standard) pulled directly from the California Department of Education. Looking specifically at college readiness? Jump to the dedicated College Prep ranking below.
The high schools whose graduates are best prepared for UC, CSU, and four-year colleges. Ranked by combined CAASPP achievement (ELA + Math, % met or exceeded standard) โ the strongest single college-readiness signal pulled directly from California Department of Education test data. When the California Dashboard updates with the latest A-G completion and college-going rates, this list refreshes automatically.
The largest, most-established private schools across all six NorCal counties. We list 164 private schools total in the database below, including Catholic, conservative Christian, other religious-affiliated, Montessori, Waldorf, and nonsectarian programs. Private schools don't take CAASPP, so this list is ordered by current enrollment as the cleanest available signal of stability, program depth, and parent vote of confidence. Each tile shows the school's type, level, and student-teacher ratio. Tap any school to visit their official website.
Every county has its own race. Here are the top performers in each.
The programs, academies, and unique offerings that separate one district from the next.
Type any NorCal address. We'll show you the nearest elementary, middle, and high school with their scores. The map below shows all 770 schools colored by tier.
Search any school, filter by county, district, or level, and sort by any column. Every row links to the full school profile.
